Going to Soweto

Today we went to a town called Soweto.  These towers were for cooling when they used to have a coal power station.  Now they are for bungee jumping.  One has a picture of Nelson Mandela waving.

We met a butcher with a pretty epic axe.  Then we drove to a museum with a boy who got shot at the age of 13.  Then there were pictures of men with guns and angry mobs with signs.  And there were two real guns, a Glock pistol and a submachine gun.

On our way back we saw this man who twisted his body and hands around and around. We gave him some coins.  Then we bought these ice blocks.  We bought one each.  I had a pineapple flavoured one.

Then we ran into a man with his bottles and plastic.  It was his little business of collecting plastic and Dad gave him a bottle and we kept going.  Then we saw lots of Ibises and a man with lots of birds of paradise flowers.

Hi Huxy

We were heading to Lesotho then. Now we are in Capetown. I picked up a rifle but it wasn't as cool as your shotgun.

Sounds pretty different to wellington already. You have the same interest as Huxy, birds and bird watching. I'm sure you well get a chace to shoot a gun over there.

Yeah it’s great over here. The museums are brilliant like the diamond museum we visited today. I am learning about geology. I think I want to be a geologist. That means I need to learn more about science. Today we also went to a gem factory where they made jewellery. I learnt that diamonds are formed by pressure as well as heat. There are so many diamonds in South Africa because once there was a huge volcano or probably lots.

Hi young Stanley. How cool to read your post. Brownie came home the other day and said to me " I just walked past The Shepherds place and it is completely dark, really strange." But there you are seeing amazing things already. Can't wait to see your sketches. We are good. It has been raining so lots of people are happy. That seems strange doesn't it. Big hug

Hi Stan
Great blog - aren't the african Ibis cool? They walk pretty funky too. Stay safe and good luck birding. I hope you are taking some bird photos too. Tim

Yeah the Ibis's do have funky walks. I have seen three types of Ibis so far. I have seen many other species from the biggest, the ostrich, to one of the smallest - that was a sunbird I saw.

um the sleeping system is pretty easy so the tents are on the roof of the car [truck] there is a board of wood which holds it up and there is a ladder that also holds it up. ps there is going to be post cards i hope you learnt a lot from this email and as alway have a nice day.

The rifle that I picked up was longer than Huxys shotgun. It was not as heavy but it was still pretty cool. The night tour was awesome I saw so many types of antelope. I have to go now. I am going on a ferris wheel.
